Effective March 24, 2025, new rules governing the use of mobile devices imported from abroad are in effect in Kazakhstan. Foreign nationals entering the country may receive an SMS notification asking them to verify their device’s IMEI code.
🔺 What is an IMEI and why does it need to be verified?
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique identifier assigned to every mobile device (smartphone, tablet, etc.).
📱 IMEI verification is required to:
• use SIM cards from Kazakhstani carriers without restrictions;
• confirm the legality of the device’s import;
• prevent the device from being automatically blocked.
Who needs to undergo verification?
If a mobile device purchased abroad was first imported into Kazakhstan after March 24, 2025, IMEI verification is mandatory.
