A certificate of the presence or absence of a criminal record is an official document confirming whether a foreign citizen has a criminal record in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This document may be required for various purposes:
  • obtaining a work permit,
  • obtaining a residence permit,
  • submitting documents to the embassy or
  • for other legal procedures.

Who can request a certificate?

Foreign citizens and stateless persons who have lived or are living in Kazakhstan may apply for this certificate.

To obtain the certificate, the IIN is required!

Importance of IIN

An individual identification number (IIN) is required to identify the applicant in the state databases of Kazakhstan.

If you have not been to Kazakhstan for a long time and have not issued an IIN, then you will need to come to Kazakhstan to issue the number. You can contact the WPK for personal support in issuing an IIN.

Issuance of IIN in foreign institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan abroad as part of the pilot project was completed on January 1, 2025.

Apostille and legalization of certificate

As a rule, certificates of no criminal record of the Kazakhstani type are required for presentation abroad.

In such cases, depending on the country of destination, an apostille or legalization of the main document is required.
