Period of stay.
Citizens of 50 countries can stay in Kazakhstan without visa for up to 30 calendar days at each entry. Number of visits is unlimited. However, a total period of stay under such visits should not exceed 90 calendar days within a 180-days period.
Key note.
Total period of stay in Kazakhstan under visa-free regime should not exceed 42 calendar days within 180-days period. Exceeding the permitted period of stay under the visa-free regime may entail administrative liability for the foreign national* and/or the host party in the form of a fine.

*By a court decision, a measure in the form of removal (deportation) from the Republic of Kazakhstan with a subsequent entry ban for up to 5 years may be applied to the foreign national.

Kazakhstan has introduced unilateral visa-free regime for citizens of India and Iran*.

According to the new regulation, citizens of India and Iran can enter and stay in Kazakhstan without visa for up to 14 calendar days since border crossing. Visits for business, private and tourist purposes are allowed under visa-free regime.
Foreign citizens can visit Kazakhstan with tourist, private and short-term business purposes under visa waiver. Business trips may include meetings, negotiations, contracts conclusion, as well as participation in the conferences and forums.

Pay attention. Within the framework of visa-free travel, foreigners are prohibited from engaging in missionary, labor or other paid activities in Kazakhstan. Any installation and repair work are also prohibited. Visa is required for such purposes of visit.

3. ALGORITHM FOR CALCULATION 90/180 DAYS
Since January 27, 2023, a new method for calculating the permitted 90 days within 180-days period has been in effect for foreigners staying in Kazakhstan under a visa-free regime.

The allowed duration of stay is determined by counting 180 calendar days backward from the date of entry or exit.

This means that both upon entry and exit, 180-days period must be assessed, during which the total stay of foreign citizens should not exceed the permitted 90 calendar days.

4. NOTIFICATION OF ARRIVAL
Notification of arrival of a foreigner is required within 3 business days since arrival date in Kazakhstan. Submission does not depend on the order of entry and stay as well as purpose of visit of a foreigner.

Notification is submitted to the migration service by the host (inviting) party via Visa-migration portal vmp.gov.kz or eQonaq.kz system. It is important to notify the migration service if the foreigner:
  • changes address within the city,
  • travels to another city in Kazakhstan.

Late submission of the notification entails administrative liability of the host entity (organization) in accordance with the Article 518 of the Administrative Offences Code.

5. IIN
IIN is required to receive any digital government services in Kazakhstan.

Thus, without an assigned IIN, foreign citizens cannot undergo the procedure of state registration of legal entities (for example, LLP) or real estate, cannot enter into employment relationships or use bank services to open and maintain accounts.

6. TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT (TRP)
In some cases, citizens of the CIS (including the EAEU) are required to obtain a temporary residence permit upon arrival in Kazakhstan. To do this, the host party must either submit an application via the eGov.kz portal or visit the Public Service Center (TSON) at their place of registration.

TRP is not reguired for:
  • citizens of the EAEU*, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, subject to a stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan of up to 90 calendar days
  • citizens of Uzbekistan, subject to stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan for up to 30 calendar days
  • children under 16 years of age
  • holders of Kazakhstan visas
*Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan

Important note: according to the updated regulations, the TRP is not cancelled when a foreigner leaves Kazakhstan. If a foreigner crosses the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan multiple times, the TRP remains valid until its expiration date.

7. DACTYLOSCOPY
From January 1, 2024, foreigners (who have reached the age of 16) must undergo a mandatory dactyloscopy (fingerprinting) procedure when processing the following documents:

  • visa
  • temporary residence permit (TRP)
  • residence permit (RP)
  • refugee certificate and (or) travel document
  • decision on expulsion or return by way of
  • readmission (in accordance with concluded international agreements
